Message I was looking into buying a TT back in 2000 and joined the forum in Feb 2000... I was on Z31.com, but probably found twinturbo.com and twinturbo.net around the same time... also was a member at Z32.org back in its time, but I think I joined up there after having been a member here... hard to say. Probably found it in a search engine...

I did however meet a Z owner on the side of the highway the other day that had not heard of the site... classic death of an alternator... Guy said it just died while he was driving, and that he'd just replaced the battery the other day. I took one look at his engine bay, looked down the passenger side of the engine and saw the frame rail covered in gunk, checked his PS fluid levels and it was empty. Told him his PS system leaked out on his Alt and killed it, which has probably killed his brand new battery. Told him he'd most likely need a new alternator (reman), and new PS lines, running him about $150 and $98, $12, & $2 respectively (Alt, HPPS, LPPS R2P, LPPS Return). Also gave him my card, and told him to call a local shop I recommend and get a quote to replace it all... if it was too high for him, I told him to call me, and I'd take care of him.

I told him I wished there was something more I could do, but I didn't have any jumpers on me, and even if I'd got his White NA started, it wouldn't have run long with a dead alt. =( He said he already had AAA on the way but thanked me for my time. He also asked me about a clutch problem he was having, stating he'd had it adjusted a few times, but it was still slipping here and there despite it having been adjusted numerous times. I asked him the mileage on it (meaning the car) and he replied he didn't know; I reiterated "on the car" and he said 140k. I replied that if he didn't know the mileage on the clutch, but that the car had 140k, the clutch was probably shot, and needed replacing.

I asked him in the middle of all of this if he'd ever heard of TwinTurbo.Net, and he replied no. I told him it was a great source of reference material and How-Tos for such fixes and told him he should check it out.

Also, you have NO idea how many of my friends that have seen TwinTurbo.Net, but own other cars have griped that they can't find ANYTHING nearly as good as TT.Net for reference and information. One friend has both a '99 M3, and a '02 IS300, and he has the worst time trying to find simple info, like how to change the engine mounts on his M3. He finally got a reply, but it took a few days to get it... =( Good bless TT.Net and its Admins for all their information and support!
